Background, menu and offline

The app stays out of the way, and no recording is lost.

Runs in the background

Closing the window doesn't quit the app — the recording key keeps working. The Dock and menu bar icons are switched separately in Settings → App; you can hide both. To bring the window back, launch Gecko Voice again. “Launch at login” starts the app together with macOS.

Menu bar menu

Everything important — without the window:

  1. Start / stop recording

    Same as the recording key.

  2. Save or cancel

    Control the recording in progress.

  3. Copy latest transcript

The text goes straight to the clipboard.

  4. Open latest recording

The record page in the app window.

Offline

Audio is saved on your Mac first — every second. With no network, the card shows “Saved. Will send when online”, and transcription starts on its own when the connection is back. No recording is lost.

Control from other programs

Programs on this Mac can start and stop recording through a local socket — your scripts or an agent, for example. Turn it on in Settings → App → Control from other programs; it is off by default and only your macOS user can use it.
