One key

Press the recording key in any app and speak. Press it again — recording stops and the text is pasted where your cursor is: a messenger, an email, a note or a code editor.

Right ⌘
Recommended: one key under your thumb. Needs the Accessibility permission.
⌘⇧Space
The default combination, works without extra permissions.

Any free one — in Settings → Recording.

The pill

While you record, a pill sits at the bottom of the screen: stop, a waveform with a timer, and cancel. Then it shows sending and processing, and finally “Pasted” with the icon of the app that got the text. You can drag the pill to any of eight corners and edges of the screen.

Pasting

If there's no text field under the cursor, the text stays on the clipboard and the pill says “Copied”. For apps with their own editor, tap “Always paste here” on the pill — next time the text is pasted right away.

Want to send the message at once? Turn on “Paste & send”: a double tap of the key on stop pastes the text and presses Enter.

Cancel is not delete

A cancelled recording is not transcribed, but it doesn't disappear either: its card and audio are kept as long as set in “Cancelled recordings” — from 1 day to Forever, 7 days by default.
